Rochdale's Best-Kept Dessert Secret

Why The Grumpy Baker on Milkstone Road Deserves a Seat at Your Table

There's a dessert cafe in Rochdale that's about to become your new favourite spot, and once you've tried it, you'll wonder how it took you this long to find it.

Tucked away on Milkstone Road, just a few minutes from Rochdale town centre and Rochdale railway station, The Grumpy Baker Rochdale serves up some of the most indulgent cheesecakes, milkshakes and molten desserts in the borough. Now's the perfect time to discover it for yourself.

A Proper Sit-In Dessert Cafe

Here's what makes the Rochdale branch stand out: this isn't a grab-and-go operation. The Grumpy Baker Rochdale is a full sit-in spot – walk in, take a seat, and enjoy your dessert at the table.

That makes it a great spot for all sorts of occasions. Whether it's a first date, a catch-up with friends, a family treat after dinner, or simply an excuse to get out of the house, there's a table waiting and a menu built for taking your time over.

Delivery is also available if you'd rather stay in, but the sit-in experience is what sets this branch apart – and it's reason enough on its own to make the trip.

A New Home in the Heart of Rochdale's Food Scene

The Milkstone Road cafe may be a new location, but The Grumpy Baker was already a well-loved name in Rochdale before the move. After closing its previous branch in August 2025, The Grumpy Baker opened the doors to its new home on Milkstone Road in December 2025.

With an established customer base already returning for its much-loved desserts, the move was all about creating a better experience in a more accessible location. Milkstone Road sits at the heart of one of Rochdale's busiest food areas, making it the ideal place for customers to enjoy dessert as part of a full evening out.

The address may have changed, but the indulgent menu and flavours that made The Grumpy Baker a local favourite remain the same.

Easy to Find, Easy to Fall for

The Grumpy Baker Rochdale sits at 43 Milkstone Road, OL11 1EB, in the Milkstone & Deeplish area – a short walk from Rochdale town centre and just a couple of minutes from Rochdale railway station.

Whether you're coming from the town centre, hopping off a train, or driving in and parking nearby, it's an easy spot to reach and an even easier one to return to.

What's on the Menu

The menu here is huge, but a few categories are worth knowing before you go:

Cheesecakes (from £8.00) – The signature. Choose from the classic Plain Jane Vanilla through to indulgent options like The Oh My (Belgian milk chocolate sauce and cocoa), The Kinder 2.0 (in-house Kinder sauce and crushed Flake), The Makavelli (rich pistachio sauce) and The Pink Panther (topped with crushed Jammy Dodgers). Prefer something with a bit of crunch? The Krunchy Baker range takes the same signature cheesecakes and tops them with a house-made chocolate or Kinder krunch.

Cookie Dough (from £8.00) – Warm, gooey and loaded. The Triple OG (Kinder sauce and white chocolate) and The Kunafah Kookie (Kunafah filling with Belgian milk chocolate) are firm favourites.

Milkshakes (£6.50) – Thick and indulgent, including the popular Jammy Baker (Jammy Dodgers, white chocolate and raspberry sauce) and The Simba Shake (Lotus Biscoff and white chocolate).

Mocktails (£6.90) – Colourful, fruity blends like The Berry Popins, The Palm Springs (mango and lychee) and The Sonic Boom (blue curaçao). A great alternative – or addition – to a milkshake.

Molten Cakes & Waffles – The Chocolate Kinder Molten Cake and The Kunafah Molten are rich, gooey indulgences. The waffle range includes EL Klassico and The Millionaire, or build your own with a full choice of sauces and toppings. Looking for something to share? The Waffle & Fudge Cake is the one to go for.

Loaded Berries & Milk Cakes – Lighter options like the fresh strawberry Loaded Berries range and the Artisan Milk Cake selection, including Pistachio, Kinder, Lotus and more, round out the menu nicely.

There's also a full soft drinks range and freshly prepared tea for something warm. Some items contain nuts, so check the menu icons if you have allergies.
